Product Application Specialist

As part of the Commerce team, you will be responsible for managing all application-related questions, either directly or through sales and marketing requests. You will play a key role in identifying new applications and writing application notes to enhance our product positioning. 

A crucial part of your role is to help the Sales team and customers understand the features, advantages, and benefits of our products, ensuring they see how our solutions fit into their workflow. You will take a proactive approach in microscopy, imaging, live-cell analysis, and staining procedures to continuously strengthen our market position. 

This is a collaborative role, where you will work closely not only with the Commerce team but also with other departments across the company. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

• Explaining the practical applications of our product portfolio to customers and partner companies. 

• Delivering webinars and identifying new application opportunities. 

• Providing customer guidance on achieving the best results with new assays, fluorescence techniques, and alternative equipment options. 

You will report directly to the Chief Commercial Officer and take on a diverse set of tasks, including: 

Key Responsibilities 

• Collaborating with partners and the sales team to support commercial efforts. 

• Utilizing the CRM system to nurture leads and strengthen the commercial pipeline. 

• Leveraging digital tools (website, webinars, social media) to attract new leads. 

• Conducting (online) demonstrations of our confocal microscopes when needed. 

• Staying up to date with developments in microscopy, imaging, and live-cell imaging. 

• Working with image acquisition and processing techniques. 

• Representing the company at conferences. 

• International travel (approx. 30%).

At Confocal NL we aim to make better microscopes for live cell imaging to further progress and accelerate e.g. drug discovery and crop improvement. We are continuously working on technology improvement to enrich the microscopy market with more innovative breakthrough solutions. 

Confocal NL was founded in 2016 as a spin-off company from the University of Amsterdam, where the REscan technology was invented. Since then, we have successfully developed several REscan microscopes and sold them worldwide. We are a growing team of 20 people (ao. engineers, biologists, sales engineers) located at the Science Park Amsterdam where Science meets Business in a vibrant atmosphere. The ideal candidate: 

• PHD in the life sciences 

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in advanced microscopy 

• Experience in imaging and processing  

• Documented experience microscopy-based imaging preferably in the live cell domain and or high content screening 

• Has strong communication skills 

• Holds a B-driver’s license valid in the EU or is willing to acquire it in due time 

The ideal candidate can act as an evangelist of low phototoxicity in live cell imaging. Has a background in microscopy and imaging and/or in the

relevant biological fields. Is very communicative (a good listener) in personal interaction but also (even becoming more and more important) online and has a proactive getting-the-job-done character. Is driven by customer satisfaction and a perfect team player.
